What is a Runtime Upgrade and why is it important?
As a blockchain's runtime represents the business logic (i.e. set of rules), a runtime upgrade enables overwriting the existing rules and potentially adding or removing data. In theory, anything is possible. In practice, potential bugs are fixed and new features are added. Since the runtime is stored on the chain itself, it can be upgraded seamlessly through on-chain governance and does not require a fork. Open / Comment
