2022-04-14 10:36:27 Ethereum largely passes first major test for proof of stake

Up until now developers had largely been testing out the big change on testnets, which are dedicated clones of the Ethereum blockchain designed for testing purposes. What was different yesterday was they carried out a test on a version of the actual mainnet, in order to try to see if the code worked on the real blockchain.

Since the developers did not want to actually carry out the change in full, they created what’s called a “shadow fork” to test it. This is an experimental exercise where some of the validator nodes split off from the main network and made the upgrade on their own. It did not affect the rest of the network. Open / Comment

3. The lowest asking price for a Mutant Ape on NFT marketplace OpenSea is around $22,400.

NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club raised $96 million in a public sale of 10,000 Mutant Apes in a single hour on Saturday night, and airdropped a further 10,000 vials of mutant serum that let existing holders of the Ethereum-based NFT mint new apes for free.

Launched in April 2021, Bored Ape Yacht Club originally comprised 10,000 randomly generated NFTs. Each comes with different characteristics—for instance, some wear tweed suits while others smoke.

The project is similar to CryptoPunks, whose 10,000 computer-generated avatars look similarly vacant and are even more expensive.
