An initial interpretation of DappRadar numbers on Oct. 11 reported extremely low engagement numbers for Decentraland, one of Web3’s most-hyped metaverses. The numbers shocked the community, as the platform has a current market evaluation of $1.2 billion.

Shortly after the initial report broke, both DappRadar and Decentraland verified that the published number of less than 40 unique active wallets (UAW) was not an accurate representation of activity on the network. According to DappRadar’s tracker at the time of writing, UAW is just over 600. A DappRadar report following the incident revealed that blockchain games and metaverse projects raised a cumulative $1.3 billion in the third fiscal quarter.

During the last week, non-fungible token (NFT) sales volume has managed to climb 1.9% higher than the week prior with $85 million in NFT sales in seven days. However, the number of NFT buyers slid by 12.63%, and the number of NFT transactions is down 19.19% on October 23, 2022.

While NFT sales are a lot lower than they were a few months ago, this past week with $85,068,480 in sales volume according to cryptoslam.io, NFT sales are up 1.9%. The top collection this week selling the most NFTs stemmed from Sorare as the Ethereum-based project saw $8.5 million in sales. Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) reigned in the second position in terms of seven-day sales, raking in $6.69 million.

More and more these days, NFTs are finding application in goodwill and charitable endeavours. These usually take the form of assets being sold to raise funds for non-profit causes. Now, The South East Community Development Council (South East CDC) in Singapore is leveraging NFTs to benefit the less privileged. NFT distributions to vulnerable people over a 10-year period.

The NFTs will be distributed by LifesDAO, a local web3 company. 120 vulnerable people and their families will be the recipients of these NFTs and with them, they can access LifesDAO’s network of over 100 merchants. These merchants include services such as hair styling and traditional medicines. In the first year of this program, people who are registered with social programs like Filos Community Services can access these NFTs, which will have a value of $6,000. The South East CDC had previously completed a 1-month trial of this program before deciding on a longer rollout.
