Myanmar's alternative government recognizes Tether as the official currency

A group of supporters of the ousted leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi recognized Tether (USDT) as a means of payment. The government of national unity has begun raising funds for a campaign aimed at overthrowing the military regime, Bloomberg writes.
Opposition finance minister Ting Tung Naing wrote on Facebook that the USDT will "facilitate and accelerate trade, services and payment systems."

In May 2020, the Bank of Myanmar outlawed cryptocurrencies, threatening violators with fines and imprisonment, the publication specifies.
In September, an alliance of pro-democracy groups and Aung San Suu Kyi's cabinet declared war on the regime of Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hline. This led to an escalation of clashes between the military and resistance groups.
