The price of testnet ether on the Goerli testnet spiked to $1.60 on Feb. 25 as traders speculated on a token that's supposed to be worthless.Last week, cross-chain platform LayerZero created a way for Goerli's testnet ether to be traded and swapped between the Ethereum mainnet and the Goerli testnet.

The idea was to create a way for developers to buy testnet ether in a more convenient way than the traditional approach of using faucets or asking the testnet's developers for coins. Still, critics warned that monetizing the native currency of a testnet — which is designed to have no value, allowing the network to support pre-production testing — would render it less suitable for its main purpose. The token traded around $0.15 at the end of last week but rose to a peak of $1.60 Saturday. Since then the token has traded downward, but still retains a value of about $0.37.

Crypto exchanges in Canada that intend to operate nationally must go through a pre-registration procedure within 30 days, according to a notification published on February 22 by the Canadian Securities Administration (CSA). The pre-registration undertaking will also need extra promises from crypto asset trading platforms.

According to the CSA, trading platforms must only permit the purchase or sale of such tokens if their reserves are made up of highly liquid assets and are kept with a licensed custodian. Moreover, they must be the focus of a monthly audit by impartial auditors, which must be timeously made public. The CSA expects crypto asset trading platforms to take necessary steps to off-board current Canadian customers and implement limits to prevent Canadian users from accessing their products or services if they are unable or unable to offer an upgraded pre-registration commitment.

Syncracy Capital Co-Founder Daniel Cheung has filed a lawsuit alleging he was scammed out of nearly one million dollars. In a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court of Central California's Western Division, Cheung alleges that Sean Full, a Los Angeles resident, took funds.

Cheung claims that Full was meant to set up an investment portfolio and would allow Cheung to control the funds. And Cheung alleges that Full, without his consent, invested his money into an “unspecified, and presumably unregistered, ‘delta neutral yielding farming’ fund.”. The lawsuit also alleges that Cheung sent Full nearly one million dollars but his losses “likely” total more than $2.7 million. Cheung says he tried repeatedly to recoup his funds but was unable to.

Over over 175,000 unique users have flocked to OKX’s PoR page to verify their holdings. OKX released its fourth monthly Proof of Reserves (PoR) enabling its users to verify that the Seychelles-based crypto exchange holds the amount of cryptocurrency that it claims to.

According to the latest data, OKX’s wallets held 135,735 BTC against a user balance of 130,664 BTC, thereby being overcollateralized. Its reserve ratio for Bitcoin has increased to 104% in the past month. The reserve ratio for Ethereum also noted a slight rise since its previous report and stood at 104%. The exchange wallets recorded assets worth 1,341,238 ETH against the user balance of 1,288,504 ETH, according to the OKX Nansen dashboard. OKX’s February reserves report has increased by nearly 15% compared to January.

MakerDAO, a decentralized lending platform for cryptocurrencies, is holding a vote on a fresh proposal that would integrate a second commercial bank into its ecosystem, deepening the link between decentralized finance (DeFi) and conventional finance.

According to MakerDAO’s governance forum, Cogent Bank, a commercial bank with headquarters in Florida, is putting out a proposal to contribute $100 million in loans to MakerDAO’s RWA Master Participation Trust. The proposal, which is a part of MakerDAO’s monthly governance cycle, calls for applying the same terms and conditions to Pennsylvania-based Huntingdon Valley Bank (HVB), which signed a collateral integration agreement with the cryptocurrency company in July 2022.
