Bitcoin Heads for Ninth Consecutive Red Weekly Candle

Bitcoin appears to be trading at a make-or-break point as its future depends on its ability to hold the $29,000 support level. The pioneer cryptocurrency is in a steep downtrend as it struggles to find support.

The damage to investors’ confidence brought on by Terra’s LUNA and UST death spiral has been too great to overcome. Although Terraform Labs successfully airdropped new LUNA tokens to previous LUNA and UST holders, it has done little to improve market sentiment. The Fear and Greed Index is at its lowest levels while trading volumes across the board continue to dry up.

Sex Workers Turn to Crypto Amid Stricter Industry Regulations

For many sex workers, bitcoin is a way for them to reclaim their financial independence and it is almost turning into an industry standard.

The US passed a federal law designed to eliminate online sex trafficking in 2018. The Fight Online Trafficking Act and Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, or FOSTA – SESTA, meant that the owners of web sites could face criminal charges for content that promoted trafficking. This law was one of the reasons for the demise of Backpage, once the bastion of online ads for sex workers.

Russia mulls allowing cryptocurrency for international payments, Interfax reports

Russia
is considering allowing cryptocurrency to be used for international payments, Interfax news agency quoted a government official as saying on Friday."The idea of using digital currencies in transactions for international settlements is being actively discussed," Ivan Chebeskov, head of the finance ministry's financial policy department, was quoted as saying.

Russian officials are wrestling with how to regulate the country's crypto market and use of digital currencies, with the finance ministry opposed to the central bank's calls for a blanket ban. Discussions have been ongoing for months and though the government expects cryptocurrencies to be legalised as a means of payment sooner or later, no consensus has yet been reached. The finance ministry is discussing adding the latest proposal on international payments to an updated version of a draft law.

Bitcoin Adopter’s African Crypto Hub Plan Has World Bank Vexed

The
World Bank is concerned about a plan by the Central African Republic to set up a crypto hub after it became the world’s second country to adopt Bitcoin, citing lack of transparency and the effect the move may have on financial inclusion.

The African nation, which relies on donors for more than half of its budget, in April enacted a law making Bitcoin legal tender in the country. It now plans a “Crypto Economic Zone,” according to a post on President Faustin-Archange Touadera’s verified Twitter handle. The post included a presentation of the plan, which mentioned a $35 million grant pledged by the World Bank to digitize the nation’s public sector.

Billionaire Investor Ray Dalio Says ‘Cash Is Still Trash’, Prefers ‘Digital Gold Bitcoin’

Billionaire investor and hedge fund manager, Ray Dalio, has reiterated his previous call that “cash is trash”. Dismissing equities as “trashier”, the Bridgewater Associates founder said he preferred “a digital gold like bitcoin” instead.

“Of course, cash is still trash,” Dalio said. “Do you know how fast you’re losing buying power in cash?” He was speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box during the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos, Switzerland.“When I say cash is trash, what I mean is all currencies in [relation] to the euro, in relationship to the yen,” he explained. “All of those currencies like in the 1930s will be currencies that will go down in relationship to goods and services.”

Government of Nigeria Adopts Algorand for IP

Last summer, El-Salvador adopted Algorand’s Layer-1 technology for the purposes of record-keeping and, in general to develop the government’s entire blockchain infrastructure. This was done through Koibanx, which is a Latin-American Fintech firm that is built on Algorand.

Today, the announcement for Nigeria’s government was also announced by Koibanx in a Twitter Spaces. It appears this company will be behind Nigeria’s blockchain infrastructure, too. Specifically for the commercialization of IP (intellectual property). As opposed to the El-Salvador agreement, this announcement appears to be even more robust and powerful. First of all, Nigeria is a massive country.
