The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), which includes Adobe, Microsoft, Arm, Intel TruePic and the BBC, has announced the development of a video and photo authentication standard. C2PA intends to implement this standard everywhere.
The coalition believes that this will reduce the spread of false information in the global network. The mechanism will be based on blockchain technology.
It has long been no secret that modern neural networks create believable videos and photos that are easy to use to spread fakes and disinformation. They are also used by hackers who use deepfake technology to steal money and personal information. It is likely that the tools developed by C2PA will be used in the fight against fraud.
