Hey Bro, look up at the
Bluesky Twitter co-founder and ex-CEO Jack Dorsey released his
decentralized social media app Bluesky in private beta on the App Store on Feb 17. Generally, he came up with it in 2019 while working for Twitter and even got funded for its development from the company's resources. It looks like it can finally be released soon.
The app itself desperately mimics Twitter, having a similar interface and functions. But more importantly, it's built on the AT protocol, which provides decentralization.
However, in 2018 W3C officially recommended ActivityPub as a decentralized social networking protocol. Many products and the Mastodon app, the main Bluesky competitor, in particular, already use it. So why didn't Jack use the proven option instead?
Alternative social networks may become the primary ones. Do you think Dorsey's Bluesky will live happily ever after? Will Twitter and other social whales sustain?
