Cardano founder claims Ethereum community in for a ‘rough time’ following the Merge

The Ethereum system upgrade known as the Merge was executed about two weeks ago, and while things have been running smoothly, not everyone is impressed by the upgrade. Cardano founder and CEO Charles Hoskinson is among them, telling TechCrunch he didn’t expect Ethereum’s design of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) to be “as rough as it is.”

Prior to the Merge, some crypto community members raised concerns about the PoS method, noting it felt more centralized than decentralized given that four major crypto entities control over half of all staked ETH. “About 42% of the blocks after the Merge are held by two actors [Lido and Coinbase] and they’re indefinitely locked in Proof of Stake,” Hoskinson said. Earlier this month, Hoskinson tweeted, “Ethereum is becoming the Hotel California of Crypto.” He said he still feels that the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson & Ethereum Core Developers Beef It out on Twitter

Ethereum
core devs and Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson duke it out on Twitter following Hoskinson’s criticism of Ethereum. While many diehard Ethereum community members celebrated the success of the recent Ethereum Merge, one former co-founder said the Merge was only needed because Ethereum was inherently flawed.

In Reddit and Twitter threads, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson opined that both Ethereum’s foundation and community were broken, and core developers completely ignored the Ouroboros protocol as a potential fix in the last five years leading up to the Merge. The Ouroboros protocol is a proof-of-stake, peer-reviewed consensus protocol that the Cardano blockchain uses. In response, one former member of the Ethereum Foundation, Hudson Jameson, decried Hoskinson’s.

XRP Jumps 44% in a Week After Ripple Moves to Dismiss SEC Lawsuit

XRP
, a cryptocurrency originally launched by the founders of crypto payments company Ripple, jumped 11% early Friday morning following a strong week of gains—and hope from investors that the SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple may be coming to an end. Trading today for XRP has since cooled a bit, now up 3% on the day.

The price pump for XRP follows news earlier this week that both Ripple and the SEC have filed motions for summary judgment in the $1.3 billion lawsuit, each seeking to dismiss the lawsuit before trial and asking the judge to rule in their favor. The SEC filed charges against Ripple in December 2020 for allegedly conducting an unregistered securities sale when it sold XRP. By contrast, the SEC alleges that XRP meets the criteria of a security under the Howey Test.

Cardano Needs One More Upgrade Before Vasil Improvements Are Completed

The
new capabilities of Cardano’s (ADA) recent Vasil upgrade will become available for developers on mainnet on Sept 27. These updates largely consist of back-end improvements to network capacity, which include a new cost model for Cardano’s smart contract programming language Plutus, according to developer Input Output.

Introduced with the previous Alonzo upgrade to facilitate the development of decentralized applications, the new, more efficient Plutus interpreter will make these dApps cheaper. While many projects currently underway intend to upgrade their code to fully utilize the new capacities, other incoming decentralized finance projects also intend to as well upon launching, such as Indigo Protocol, Liqwid Finance, and Maladex.

Chamber of Digital Commerce gets approval to join the SEC vs Ripple lawsuit

The
crypto advocacy group is granted the status of "the friend of the court.". A United States crypto advocacy group, the Chamber of Digital Commerce (CDC), has been granted approval from the Court of Southern District of New York to participate as an amicus curiae in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) case against Ripple Labs.

The case was opened in 2020 when the SEC alleged that Ripple and its executives Brad Garlinghouse and Christian Larsen sold XRP as unregistered securities worth over $1.38 billion. The outcome of this case could determine whether XRP is a security. If the judge rules in favor of the SEC, it could be the precedent the commission needs to pursue legal action against other crypto projects that sold tokens similar to XRP.

Ripple commits to zero carbon emissions by 2040

As
Ripple’s legal battle against the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rages on, the blockchain company is joining the efforts for a greener future, along with hundreds of other businesses. Ripple announced on September 20 that it had signed the Climate Pledge, thus joining more than 375 other businesses.

According to Ripple’s pledge, “with every solution, we’re realizing a more sustainable global economy and planet – increasing access to inclusive and scalable financial systems while leveraging carbon-neutral blockchain technology and a green digital asset, XRP.”. Reducing carbon emissions is not the only future-oriented mission that those with connections to Ripple are involved in. In mid-September, one of its co-founders and its former chief technology officer, Jed McCaleb.

Ripple, SEC file summary judgment as crypto community watch keenly

The
case between the U.S. SEC and Ripple Labs could finally end after both parties filed for summary judgment. According to motions filed before the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York, the two parties are asking the court to give a summary judgment based on the evidence and arguments already presented.

Ripple Attorney James K. Filan tweeted about the new developments saying that Ripple’s current CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, and former CEO, Christian Larsen, also filed for summary judgment. The defendants have argued that the SEC has no jurisdiction over XRP since the token was sold on overseas exchanges. Ripple CEO Garlinghouse corroborated Alderoty’s view, saying the SEC was not interested in applying the law. Instead, the regulator is trying to expand its “jurisdiction far beyond the authority granted to them by Congress.”.

Ripple and the SEC file for summary judgments to bring their case to a close

Ripple
Labs Inc. and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are ready to see an end to the lawsuit that began in December of 2020 as both parties filed motions asking Judge Analisa Torres to make a summary judgment on the case. U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Saturday,

The SEC originally filed the lawsuit against Ripple, alleging that its sale of XRP, which is the native token of Ripple Labs’ XRP Ledger, constitutes an offering of unregistered securities now worth more than $1.38 billion. Ripple’s executive chairman Chris Larsen and chief executive officer (CEO) Brad Garlinghouse were listed as codefendants on the lawsuit for allegedly aiding and abetting the moves by Ripple. According to the SEC’s website, an investment contract under the Howey test “exists when there is the investment of money in a common enterprise.
