IOHK Shares Technical Briefing on Cardano's Vasil Hard Fork

Cardano and its smart contracts platform, Plutus, are set to undergo significant enhancements in June's hard fork. In light of this, Cardano's parent company, IOHK, shares a technical briefing, explaining the nitty-gritty details of Plutus and interaction with smart contracts using Plutus Core scripts.

Plutus Core scripts enable the creation of dApps and multi-asset support on the blockchain (i.e., anyone can create their tokens). Interacting with a Plutus contract differs from interacting with an Ethereum contract as Plutus Core scripts do not go on-chain until used in a transaction.

XRP Lawsuit: Ripple Continues To Exude Confidence Of Scoring Major Win Against The SEC

Ripple
CEO Brad Garlinghouse has oozed confidence in winning the court case against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Speaking at the Paris Blockchain week event, Garlinghouse told attendees that their defense has been ‘exceedingly better’ than he expected.

He also added that a win in the XRP lawsuit would set a good precedent for cryptos and exchanges that have suffered from several unfavorable regulations instituted by the SEC.The case, filed 15 months ago, alleges that Ripple, its CEO (Garlinghouse), and the company’s executive chairperson (Chris Larsen) engaged in illegal activity by conducting a $1.3 billion unregistered securities offering.

SEC’s Setback in Ripple Suit Adds Pressure to Define Crypto Assets

The SEC has been using almost exclusively enforcement powers against token issuers to encourage them to register their digital assets as securities. The SEC has been using the "Howey" test, which defines what an investment contract is, to defend that most of the digital assets are securities and therefore fall under its supervision.

The outcome of this case is still unclear, and it may not provide a conclusive resolution for the classification of cryptocurrencies as tokens, currency or securities, but it is adding more pressure on the SEC to provide more clear guidance via rulemaking than via enforcement in individual cases.

‘Surprising’ Development in XRP Lawsuit As SEC Decides To End Discovery Phase With Ripple: Crypto Legal Expert

Attorney Jeremy Hogan says that he couldn't be more surprised by the SEC's decision to end its discovery process, which is the point in a lawsuit where both parties exchange information otherwise not known or readily available.

The Hinman emails that Hogan's referring to involve documents relating to former SEC Director William Hinman, who Ripple alleges had a conflict of interest during his involvement in the beginning stages of the lawsuit. If the SEC can't even get it straight whether the speech was his personal opinion or perhaps the entire division's guidance.

The SEC Set Itself Up for Catastrophe in Lawsuit Against Ripple

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission may have set itself up for failure in its lawsuit against Ripple Labs, according to crypto legal expert Jeremy Hogan.

"If the SEC can't even get it straight whether the speech was his personal opinion or perhaps the entire division's guidance and they can't even get it straight in a legal pleading with lots of forethought put into it, how the heck was Ripple supposed to know?".The SEC first sued Ripple Labs in December 2020, claiming that the payments network sold the crypto asset XRP as an unregistered security.

Crypto firm Ripple's court battle with the SEC has gone 'exceedingly well,' CEO says

PARIS
— Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is confident the company will come out well as its lengthy court battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission nears a conclusion.

The San Francisco-based start-up is fighting the SEC over allegations that Ripple, Garlinghouse and executive chairman Chris Larsen engaged in an illegal securities offering through sales of XRP, a cryptocurrency the company both uses commercially and is closely associated with.Ripple has disputed the SEC's findings, arguing XRP should be treated as a virtual currency rather than an investment contract like a stock.

SEC Emails Highlighting Alleged Conflict of Interest Set to Take Center Stage in Ripple Trial

New
details revealed in emails between SEC officials may prove useful in Ripple’s efforts to dismiss SEC action against its XRP token.Days after hundreds of emails between SEC top officials were released, a judge has ruled the regulator cannot edit or clarify the contents for the upcoming Ripple Labs trial.

Empower Oversight, a nonprofit whistleblower organization, last week released more than 200 emails between current and former SEC employees. It claims the emails prove there were conflicts of interest associated with how the SEC selected enforcement actions against digital asset companies, specifically the agency’s decision not to view ethereum the same as XRP.The emails, which Empower Oversight received from a Freedom of Information Act request, specifically relate to William Hinman.
