Mainnet Merge Announcement

• Ethereum is moving to proof-of-stake! The transition, known as The Merge, must first be activated on the Beacon Chain with the Bellatrix upgrade. After this, the proof-of-work chain will migrate to proof-of-stake upon hitting a specific Total Difficulty value.

• The Bellatrix upgrade is scheduled for epoch 144896 on the Beacon Chain – 11:34:47am UTC on Sept 6, 2022.

• The Terminal Total Difficulty value triggering The Merge is 58750000000000000000000, expected between Sept 10-20, 2022.

• Note: as announced earlier, the Kiln testnet is being sunset. Operators will shut down on September 6, 2022.

PayPal adds to list of crypto heavy hitters on the TRUST network

Crypto-friendly digital payments giant PayPal has been added to the Travel Rule Universal Solution Technology (TRUST) network, joining a host of big names in crypto that have moved to comply with digital asset travel rules.

The announcement comes two months after the payments giant rolled out infrastructure enabling users to transfer, send and receive digital assets between PayPal and other wallets and exchanges in June this year. Prior to that, users were only able to buy and sell crypto within PayPal, following the firm’s initial jump into the sector in October 2020.

Telegram CEO Proposes Auctioning Usernames, Links As NFTs

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has proposed bringing its platform usernames and channel links to market as NFTs.

In a Monday post to his personal Telegram channel, which has 651,000 subscribers, Durov suggested that millions of reserved Telegram addresses could be auctioned as assets on the blockchain. 

Durov wrote that he was inspired by The Open Network (TON)’s recent sale of over 2,000 .ton domain names. The sale totaled 2,392,002 Toncoin, each of which trades for $1.29 at writing time, netting approximately $3 million.
