Polygon, an Ethereum sidechain, has launched a web3 identification service called Polygon ID that allows blockchain-based applications to authenticate user credentials without revealing personal information. The service uses zero-knowledge proofs, which allow data to be verified while remaining encrypted and hidden from the verifying party. Polygon ID is accompanied by a developer toolkit and has already gained support from Polygon-based crypto and NFT projects such as Kaleido, Fractal, and Collab.Land. The new service can be useful in compliance use cases, such as "Know Your Client" processes, permissioned DeFi platforms, and fiat payments. Polygon ID works alongside Polygon's wallet, and the identity toolkit technology has been integrated into Polygon zkEVM, expected to launch later this month.
