2023-03-17 09:06:42 Federal Judge Slams SEC for Poorly Argued Attempts to Regulate Cryptocurrencies

A US bankruptcy judge, Michael E. Wiles, has criticised the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its confusing attempts to force through its views about cryptocurrencies as securities. In a case involving Voyager Digital Holdings, Wiles complained that the regulator had objected to a proposed reorganisation plan on the grounds of "innuendo" and had failed to offer clarity over whether Binance, the company taking over customer accounts, should be registered as a securities broker. Wiles expressed concern that the SEC's actions were delaying the resolution of the bankruptcy case and costing creditors and customers time and money.

Barney Frank told Bloomberg Radio today that:

1. Signature Bank was shuttered because the regulators "wanted to send a message to get people away from crypto."

2. "We [Signature Bank] were singled out to be the poster child for that message."

Whatever you think of his politics, Barney was always candid.
