We brought a big GBP LONG position home yesterday (against the weak JPY), but SHORT the GBP today. The GBP benefited strongly from hawkish comments from the Bank of England but comes now under pressure with the COVID situation in the UK becoming worse over the previous days. On Monday the UK reported 49,156 new cases, the highest daily number in three months. While I don't expect death rates to get anywhere close to were they were at the previous peaks given that vulnerable groups are vaccinated (and many of them died already), the reports cause uncertainty on the markets, which will have an impact on the GBP. A growing number of medical professionals and officials from the NHS plea to the British government to reimpose some COVID restrictions. The (PREMIUM ONLY) on the other hand continues to benefit from the (PREMIUM ONLY), high (PREMIUM ONLY), not further strengthening (PREMIUM ONLY), high inflation and an increasingly hawkish (PREMIUM ONLY).
