What can we expect from DXY today?

Light data releases kept the dollar trading in a range. Focus shifts to the quarter-on-quarter Preliminary GDP to be released today, where the economy is expected to grow to 6.7% (prev. 6.5%). The Jackson Hole symposium would take centre stage thereafter, where traders would be looking for hints of a taper timeline for the Fed’s asset purchases.

Gold price flirted below the ascending trendline yesterday before rebounding back to 1,808. We are awaiting to see whether the price action can break down from the triangle pattern. RSI is also facing bearish pressure from the descending trendline resistance for further downside. If it breaks down, it will swing towards support at 1,782.97, in-line with 61.8% Fibonacci retracement and 100% Fibonacci extension. If price bounces, it will swing towards resistance at 1,815.50, in-line with 78.6% Fibonacci retracement, 61.8% Fibonacci extension and descending trendline resistance.

Gold dropped and found support at about 1,792.78 during Monday session, in-line with 38.2% Fibonacci retracement and 50MA. If prices can close above the major resistance area at 1,815, it would swing toward our first resistance at 1,826.50, in-line with 61.8% Fibonacci retracement and 200% Fibonacci extension. If price drops, it would still find support at 1,792.78, in-line with 38.2% and 50% Fibonacci retracement.
