McDonald's filed trademark applications for virtual restaurants and NFTsApplications include McDonald's, McCafe and the golden arch logo, as well as services: "manage a virtual restaurant with real and virtual goods", "manage a virtual restaurant online with home delivery", "downloadable multimedia files containing images, text, audio, and video files and NFTs." Restaurants can work in the Metaverse, hold virtual concerts in McCafe, etc.
McDonald's is not the first restaurant chain to attempt to register its brand in a new alternate reality. A day earlier, Panera applied for a "Paneraverse" that would include virtual restaurants and cafes as well as NFTs.
