Chainlink plans to launch its long-awaited staking services in December, Sergey Nazarov, the project’s co-founder, announced Wednesday at the Smartcon 2022 conference in New York. Nazarov said Chainlink will progressively roll out the staking program for particular ecosystem members based on their LINK holdings, community engagement, and ecosystem participation. Chainlink will launch an eligibility app on Oct. 3 to notify users when they are eligible to participate in staking. Chainlink offers oracle networks that relay real-world data to web3 dApps, such as price feeds, weather data, and cross-chain communication. Chainlink’s ecosystem currently spans more than 1,500 projects, including top protocols Aave, Compound, Synthetic, and dYdX.

The success of the Polygon blockchain in bringing scalability to Ethereum shows that developers have to reach out to mainstream consumers and not operate solely within the “crypto cult,” Bernstein said in a research report Wednesday. The network was the first platform to offer scalability for Ethereum with its proof-of-stake (PoS) chain, Bernstein said, which encouraged leading decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible token (NFT) applications to offer their products on the system. Polygon also has lower fees, making it easier for applications such as trading platforms Uniswap and OpenSea to cater to retail demand.

Smartcon 2022: Decentralized oracle provider Chainlink announces partnership with international payment messaging network, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT). The trial will see SWIFT make cross-blockchain token transfers using the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). Chainlink’s relationship with SWIFT began after it won a startup challenge hosted by SWIFT and developed a proof-of-concept system for successful bond issuance and redemption. While cross-chain bridges already allow token transfers between blockchains, they can pose significant security and user experience challenges.

Digital bank Revolut has been added to the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) list of registered crypto firms as zero-fee brokerage firm Robinhood trials a new Polygon wallet. The FCA allows crypto firms compliant with anti-money laundering practices to move from the TRR to the official register. Revolut has 20 million global customers and lists 80 digital assets. Across the Atlantic, Robinhood Markets today rolled out a beta version of a non-custodial crypto wallet to 10,000 iOS users. The new wallet eschews Ethereum in favor of layer-two solution Polygon but will incorporate more blockchains in the future.
