Meta chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg found himself being memed online not too long ago after he shared a picture of his digital avatar on metaverse. Reactions were swift and brutal, with people complaining that the graphical presentation looked really bad. Not the best advertisement for a company that rebranded itself from Facebook to Meta to emphasise.

Now an internal memo, acquired by online publication The Verge, has found that people working on the metaverse app rarely use the platform. The Horizon Worlds team has been placed in "quality lockdown" for the rest of the year. In the memo, Meta's VP of metaverse Vishal Shah said many employees within the team "don't spend much time in Horizon". Shah also pointed out that the current onboarding process was "confusing and frustrating" for users.

OpenSea, a digital marketplace for crypto collectibles and nonfungible tokens (NFTs), announced in a series of tweets on Oct. 5 that the platform will officially allow its users to bulk list and bulk purchase up to 30 digital collectible items in a single flow. the platform will allow its users to add up to 30 items from the same chain to their cart before finalizing.

Cointelegraph reported that OpenSea had launched a new immersive initiative enabling creators to launch their NFT collections on their own customizable and dedicated drop pages, with hopes that this will allow for greater visibility and discoverability on the marketplace’s new homepage. In the same month, global music and entertainment company Warner Music Group announced a partnership with the NFT marketplace.

The prime minister of Japan has said the country would prioritize investments in digital technology, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse, during an annual address to the country’s legislature. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida spoke about the current state of affairs in Japan, from its pandemic response, to how it would cope with rising inflation.

One priority, the prime minister emphasized, would be focusing on supporting the social implementation of digital technology. He added that this would involve promoting the expanded use of Web3 services that utilize the metaverse, and NFTs. Highlighting these efforts, Kishida referenced the “Summer Digiden Koshien 2022,” a competition held last month in which participants competed to solve local challenges using digital technology. Kishida had made Web3 development one of the pillars of the country’s economic revitalization.

Entrepreneur and investor Gary Vaynerchuk’s hand-drawn VeeFriends doodles went from paper to NFTs, yielding more than $300 million worth of trading volume and leading to a Christie’s auction, brand partnerships, and May’s VeeCon convention. Now Gary Vee’s characters have been turned into toys that are coming to America’s top department store chain.

VeeFriends will debut plush and vinyl toys later this month through Macy’s and its Toys”R”Us brand, which is relaunching within all Macy’s locations in the United States. The toys are based on 10 total VeeFriends characters from the broader NFT collection, and were designed in collaboration with toy and entertainment startup Toikido. The first run of toys will be available for sale starting October 17, and will also be available via the Macy’s and Toys”R”Us websites, as well as the VeeFriends website.

Telefonica teamed up with Bit2Me to enable settlements in Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), USDC, and other coins. One of the largest telephone operators and mobile network providers in Spain – Telefonica – partnered with the crypto exchange Bit2Me to allow clients to pay for services in digital assets.

The Madrid-based corporation allowed customers to settle bills in several cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Circle’s stablecoin USDC, and others on its online marketplace named Tu. To enable the crypto payments, Telefonica joined forces with the Spanish digital asset platform Bit2Me, which provided the infrastructure and will oversee the transactions. The news grabbed the attention of the Chief Executive Officer of Binance – Changpeng Zhao (CZ) – since he shared it on his personal Twitter account.
