Testing a teleoperated lunar rover with hands
In December 2021, GITAI and JAXA tested a prototype teleoperated lunar rover at a test site simulating the surface of the Moon.
It features four independent wheels, so the robot can travel sideways, turn on the spot, and perform any other maneuvers.
At the front, there is a remote-controlled robot that imitates the upper half of the human body: it has a torso, two arms, and a head. The head has a flashlight and two cameras that allow the operator to see stereoscopic video streamed to him on a VR helmet.
