Any cryptocurrency has an open code that programmers can improve and copy. When the code is changed, a fork occurs.
When a fork is used, a blockchain is split into two new ones, and they start working in parallel and independently. In the new chain, the code can be improved, and the blockchain of the coin starts working with the new code. There are two types of forks:
1. Soft Fork — «soft» code modification, slight changes in old blocks, and insignificant in new ones
2. Hard Fork — «hard» code modification and creation of a new chain in the cryptocurrency blockchain, that is, a complete change of the source code.
The Fork was created to improve technology and increase interest in the coin. Therefore, code changes are a necessary part of the cryptocurrency technological change.
