If you are thinking about diving into the world of decentralization, then having an understanding of what DeFi (decentralized finance) is probably won't be enough. A large niche in the world of decentralization is occupied by protocols that have their own 'governance' tokens. For instance, the flagship protocols built on Ethereum and BSC are already utilizing such tokens.

Here are a few examples:

What are 'governance' tokens and what are they for?

As we already discussed before, our main development direction in 2021 is decentralization. A couple of days ago, we discussed why we started working on the decentralized branch of the Roobee platform and dived into DeFi. In today's post, we'd like to talk in detail about the centralized branch of Roobee — the progress we've made, and our plans for the future.

1. Progress made. In the summer last year, we launched the centralized part of the Roobee platform. ROOBEE token holders were the first to get access to it. A bit later on, we open sign-ups for everyone. After the technical launch, we released several major updates and made a complete platform redesign. All the changes and improvements were made based on the feedback of our users. The platform is fully operational, and the number of Roobee users is growing daily.

2. Products. The centralized part of the Roobee platform is designed to lower the entry thresholds and make investment instruments accessible for everyone. For example, Roobee users can purchase investment products from the traditional market:

— an S&P 500 ETF
— the iShares Russell 2000 ETF
— an ETF on Chinese technology companies
— an ETF that invests in real estate investment trusts (REITs)
— the Invesco NASDAQ 100 ETF
— the SPDR Consumer Staples
— an ETF on companies from the healthcare sector

We also want to make special mention of pre-IPO products which are very popular among our users:

3. Advantages. One of the advantages of the centralized branch of the Roobee platform is that users can purchase products from the traditional market via crypto. Roobee also allows users to invest in instruments that were previously available only to a limited circle of investors — for instance, pre-IPOs.

At the same time, the Roobee platform utilizes the blockchain technology to provide transparent and unforgeable statistics. Whenever a Roobee user purchases investment products on the platform, the data gets recorded on the blockchain, which proves that the investment is real and belongs to this particular user.

4. The ROOBEE token. Users can already use the ROOBEE token on the platform. For example, to participate in Robinhood's Pre-IPO, it was required to have at least 5,000 ROOBEE on the balance.

Very soon, we will add new products and change the ways of how the token will be used on the Roobee platform — ROOBEE tokens will become mandatory for use on the platform.

We've found that many users wonder why we began to focus on the decentralized branch of the Roobee platform and dived into DeFi. The are several reasons for it, and we'll discuss them in this post!

6. Project promotion. Being present and active in an ecosystem with an ever-growing user base like DeFi helps attract a larger audience and draw attention to the project and token.
