Analyst agency CB Insights released a report on global venture investments in 2022.
Compared to last year's record year, funding has decreased but is still much higher than before.
From January to June 2022, investors invested $250.1B in startups worldwide – 12% compared to the same period in 2021, +108% in 2020, +85% in 2019, and +77% in 2018. The average deal size was $20M, $5M less than last year.
At the same time, the average deal size for early-stage and middle-stage startups even increased slightly. Late-stage startups are raising less money than last year ($35M vs. $50M), but the numbers are still high over a five-year horizon.
The average post-money valuation of startups has increased compared to last year. This applies to startups at all stages except Series E+. The capitalization of startups grew by 185% between funding rounds in the second quarter of 2022. The most significant part of investments fell in the USA (35%), the Asian region (34%), and Europe (22%).
