A liquidity pool is a kind of «cryptocurrency reservoir». If a trader wants to exchange, say, his $TGR for $WTON or $JTON, the exchange will take the token from the liquidity pool and give it to the trader, and $TGR will go to another similar reservoir.

An exchange cannot function successfully without liquidity pools. That's why liquidity providers get income — they get paid a percentage for every transaction made within the pool. It's a kind of passive investment in cryptocurrencies.

Can I become a liquidity provider and earn income?

In fact, there is no «common cryptocurrency pool» where different tokens are «floating» around. A liquidity pool is always a trading pair.

For example, there is a pool of TGR/WTON. Or TGR/oUSDT or TGR/oUSDC. These are separate "cauldrons" with only two cryptocurrencies. For example, to become a liquidity provider for a TGR/TON pool, you will have to contribute both Toncoin and Tegro to the pool. Usually in a 50/50 ratio, but some exchanges have other proportions.
