Optimism's second airdrop protocol includes a distribution of 11.7 million tokens

Protocol Optimism (OP), the layer 2 (L2) scaling tool for the Ethereum blockchain, plans to airdrop and distribute a total of 11.7 million OP tokens to users.

According to the Optimism team, recipients eligible to participate in the distribution include those who have delegated their OP tokens and addresses who have spent more than $6.10 on L2 gas since March 25, 2022. It is noted that $6.10 is the average transaction cost at the Ethereum 1 level.

Optimism conducted its first airdrop in May 2022, distributing more than 200 million OP tokens to 250,000 users, representing 5% of the total initial token supply. The upcoming and second-to-last airdrop will include about 0.27% of the initial offering. In total, the Optimism team has promised to pass 19% of the total initial token offering to community members.

On the evening of February 25, OP was trading at $2.68, ranking 80th overall in terms of market capitalization. Despite the 16% drop in price, the token's price remains at the 200% mark as of early 2023, when OP was worth about $0.92.

The cryptocurrency's price has risen sharply as rumors of a Level 2 Base scaling solution, developed with leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, emerged to be built on Optimism.
