Sequel to our L2 technology post yesterday, it is important to understand a bit more what this technology comprises:
Channels
This is used to conduct multiple transactions off-chain by only submitting two transactions to the settlement layer, i.e.Ethereum.
Plasma
Merkle trees are used in plasma solutions to build an external chain to the primary blockchain.
Sidechains
A sidechain is a separate blockchain that is attached to its parent blockchain using a two-way peg. Sidechains allow tokens and other digital assets from one blockchain to be securely used in a separate blockchain and then be moved back to the original blockchain if need be.
Rollups
Rollups operate by executing Layer 2 transactions while sending data to the base chain.
Validium
Uses validity proofs like ZK-rollups but data is not stored on the main layer 1 Ethereum chain. This can lead to 10k transactions per second per validium chain and multiple chains can be run in parallel.
