BINANCE joins hands with YG ENTERTAINMENT to bring the NFT market to K-POP

Binance has just established a partnership with YG Entertainment - Korea's leading entertainment company to build a more sustainable framework for the NFT market.

YG Entertainment currently manages some of the most influential K-pop stars across the country such as: BLACKPINK, BIGBANG and WINNER. Under the agreement between the two parties (MoU), YG will allow Binance to:

access to NFT development based on IP (intellectual property rights) associated with the above artists.
rights to provide NFT platform and technology infrastructure while YG will provide NFT content as well as game creation.

This is not the first meeting between K-pop and the crypto space.


Previously, US-based concert organizer Metaverse - Animal Concerts partnered with Korean blockchain network Klaytn, with the goal of bringing K-pop stars closer to the metaverse.
Animoca Brands announced that they will be partnering with Korean record label Cube Entertainment to build a metaverse world exclusively for K-pop.

However, it must be affirmed that this move is a very smart move by Binance.
Because Korea has just opened the door to NFT and metaverse by not including NFT in the crypto regulatory framework as well as implementing a long-term systematic metaverse development plan from the government, with hopes to make Korea the 5th largest country in the field by 2026.

NFT is becoming a fertile ground for Korean startups

Most people when it comes to NFT only think of the content industry, games or digital art, but NFT can also apply to music, even real estate.

NFT (or Non-Fungible Token) is a unique digital asset that provides a certificate of ownership of the asset that the user is purchasing.
NFT uses blockchain technology as a ledger to record their sales and ownership. In other words, an NFT is a unit of data on a digital ledger called a blockchain. Wherein, each NFT can represent a unique file and, therefore, they are not interchangeable.

Korea is one of the top 10 countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization's Global Innovation Index in 2020. That level of innovation has been demonstrated through tech giants like Samsung and LG, as well as game makers like Krafton.
Those companies and many others in Korea are now venturing into the NFT space by releasing new collections to customers and launching divisions dedicated to NFT development.

The reason for NFT to thrive in Korea
There is no tax policy on digital assets yet, which may have helped speed up progress.
NFT is not as strictly regulated as cryptocurrencies today. There are currently no rules in place for NFTs. This helps open the market and attracts many exchanges such as Upbit and Bithumb, large corporations such as the game company Krafton to participate in seeking profits from NFT.
