Famed French soccer player, Kylian Mbappé, has come aboard the famous fantasy football brand with NFT cards, Sorare.

Followed by Messi and Griezmann, Mbappé, who earns a $100 million annual salary, decided in June 2022 to invest in the Web3 world.

Specifically, Mbappé acquired a stake in the French startup Sorare as his first investment in the Web3 world, his only NFT card was purchased for about 416,000 euros by the buyer “Team Bamby.”

To celebrate that accomplishment with Sorare, the French champion shared a story on Instagram with his 100 million followers.

In return, Sorare contributes to his “Inspired By KM” (IBKM) association, which develops educational projects and helps disadvantaged youth discover the opportunities offered by Web3 technology.

Crypto lending protocol MakerDAO approved opening a real world asset (RWA) vault for Coinbase Custody and the transfer of up to $500 million in USDC stablecoins, according to a vote concluded on Thursday.

The U.S.-based crypto exchange’s custodial arm will pay a 2.6% annual yield on deposits, a related post on Maker’s governance forum said. The proposal forbids Coinbase Custody to rehypothecate – lend, reinvest or use in other ways – the assets in the account.

Coinbase must keep the tokens in cold crypto wallets, the Maker community favored in a parallel vote. Maker will be able to withdraw funds from the vault within 24 hours, and funds in cold storage are insured up to the $500 million limit. Open / Comment

Goblin Sax, a decentralized autonomous organization for NFT finance, is launching an instant loans service. It acquired instant loans app Fluid, which it will rebrand as Goblin Lend, to build out the product alongside its already existing peer-to-peer NFT lending service.

Formerly known as Gringotts DAO, Goblin Sax is one of several NFT loan platforms that have popped up over the last year that targets NFT holders looking to unlock liquidity without selling their nonfungible tokens.

Among them, South African company NFTfi raised a $5 million seed round late last year. In November, it issued a loan for $1.4 million over 30 days at 9.69% APR. The collateral was a rare NFT from the generative art collation Autoglyphs.

Goblin Sax was originally a lender on NFTfi but has been looking for ways to evolve.

"The instant loans app will enable users to click a few buttons and take a loan instantly", the DAO's head of integrations, who goes by "Arentweall," told The Block. They explained that "the base layer is using NFTfi, but I think the user experience is very different from the one on NFTfi, where you first put out your NFT and then wait for someone to offer you a loan." Perennial, a decentralized finance (DeFi)-native derivatives protocol, has gone live with a $12 million seed funding round led by Polychain Capital and Variant. The capital raise happened earlier this year, but the recent collapse of centralized exchange FTX has put increased focus on risk mitigation, liquidity and DeFi projects.

Other investors in the round included Archetype, Scalar Capital, Robot Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, a capital and a number of angel investors, according to a draft Medium post provided to CoinDesk.

Perennial enables the creation of two-sided markets made up of traders and liquidity providers. Traders deposit assets to get leveraged exposure to different price feeds, while the liquidity providers pool capital to earn fees for taking the other side of trader positions.

The losing side of the trade pays the winning side. Perennial’s initial core features also include zero price slippage – trades happen directly at the current price regardless of size – and trades that are settled in USD instead of crypto.

“Perennial is built as a non-custodial DeFi protocol that is fully on-chain with open source code,” Perennial operations head Jacob Phillips told CoinDesk in an email. “This means users always control their own funds and can easily verify any of the actions/behaviors of the protocol.” Open / Comment
