Ethereum derivatives trading grew about 10% over the last month in anticipation of the Merge, taking up to 57% of the combined bitcoin and ether futures trading volume. In the past 24 hours alone, over $35 billion in ether futures was traded, compared to $32 billion in bitcoin futures.

Furthermore, the open interest, or the number of ether contracts that have not been settled, has almost doubled to $8.43 billion this week. For the month of Sep. 2022 to date, the total derivatives volume traded for ether is around $87 billion, compared to roughly $67 billion for bitcoin, data from Coinglass shows. Futures contracts are agreements to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price sometime in the future.

Bitfinex and Tether recently filed a letter requesting Roche Freedman be terminated from the case following a scandal surrounding its founding partner, Kyle Roche. Now, counsel for Poloniex and Bittrex have piled on, submitting a letter supporting the termination of Roche Freedman.

Mr. Roche’s recent statements raise serious concerns about the intent behind such discovery and how it will be used," lawyers for Bittrex and Poloniex said in a filing with U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. "While the Exchange Defendants appreciate that a protective order has been entered in this matter and that attorneys can be expected to comply with such orders, Mr. Roche’s statements make clear that he has already used confidential materials produced in litigation for improper purposes.

Binance's CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) shared an update on the KyberSwap hack today, revealing that his firm's security team had identified two suspects. "Binance security team has identified two suspects for yesterday's KyberSwap hack. We have provided the intel to the Kyber team, and are coordinating with LE (law enforcement)," CZ tweeted.

In response to a tweet commending the exchange's actions and referring to it as playing the role of big brother in the crypto space, the CEO said, "Hopefully not the 'big brother' role. We don't need that in crypto. Just helping out where we can." KyberSwap is a multichain DEX aggregator that suffered a frontend exploit that resulted in the theft of $265,000 in user funds. The Kyber team told victims of the hack they would be compensated for any funds lost and offered a 15% bounty to the hacker if the funds were returned.

The firm continued that “the upgrade will also bring enhancements to Plutus to enable devs to create more powerful and efficient blockchain-based applications.” Input Output revealed that it has gotten assurance from stake pool operators (SPOs) and Dapp communities that they would be ready for the Vasil upgrade by Sept. 22.

Developers behind the Helium network – a grid of medium-range wireless hotspots pitched as an alternative to hard-wired internet service – are proposing to migrate away from the project's own blockchain onto Solana, in pursuit of faster transaction speeds, higher uptimes and more interoperability with other blockchains as key reasons.

The proposal to move toward Solana and away from Helium's own blockchain, officially known as HIP 70, "addresses network speed, reliability and scalability," the foundation said. According to the post, members had spent "countless hours keeping up unprecedented growth" and that reliable "proof-of-coverage activity" and "reliable data transfer activity" have "proven to be a challenge for users." The Helium Foundation said it "fully supports" the proposal.
