The Reserve Bank of Australia said on March 3 that it has selected 14 digital currency proposed use cases from a large number of submissions obtained from industry participants. An assistant governor at the RBA, Brad Jones, said the Aussie central bank is encouraged by the composition of providers that have been “invited to participate in the live pilot.”

The Australia central bank, which has been exploring the benefits of central bank digital currency (CBDC), recently announced the digital currency’s proposed use cases as well as the names of providers “invited to participate in the live pilot.” In a press statement, the bank, which is known as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), said the chosen use cases were selected from a large number of submissions from industry participants.

Brad Jones, an assistant governor at the RBA, is quoted in the statement lauding the industry participants’ willingness to engage regulators. Jones said:

We are delighted with the enthusiastic engagement by industry in this important research project. It has also been encouraging that the use case providers that have been invited to participate in the pilot span a wide range of entities in the Australian financial system, from smaller fintechs to large financial institutions. The XRP community is in a heated debate over the proposal to increase transaction fees to boost the price of the controversial token.

David Schwartz, Ripple's chief technical officer, responded to the proposal, stating that he agrees that transaction fees should reflect the actual cost a transaction imposes on the network.

However, the architect behind the XRP Ledger disagreed with the notion of using transaction fee destruction as an artificial mechanism to put upward pressure on XRP's price.

Schwartz further explained that the advantage of the XRPL is low-cost, high-speed transaction confirmation. Still, he believes that node operators should not subsidize transactions whose value is less than their total cost.

According to Schwartz, if the transaction fee is less than the actual cost of a transaction, executing the transaction could destroy value and discourage people from running nodes. In contrast, if the fee is more than the cost, there would be needless friction. Open / Comment

Digital currencies began the week in decline following a renewed correction in stock markets. Social tensions in China provoked capital outflows from risky assets in both Asia and North America.

The day before the US trading ended with the decline of S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes by 1.5%. The U.S. currency, on the other hand, strengthened for the second consecutive day. The dollar index rose to 106.664 points on Tuesday, November 29.

Trading in Asia today was also predominantly in the red zone, with negativity shifting to Europe.

Cryptocurrencies along with IT stocks are declining in value, but their losses have been minimal so far. Bitcoin (BTC) corrected to $16,491. Ether (ETH) and Binance Coin (BNB) fell 0.5% to $1216 and $303.5, respectively.

Of the top ten cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin (DOGE) is confidently rising. This coin rose by 9.49% to $0.104 overnight. During the week DOGE capitalization soared by almost 40% to $13.809 billion. Open / Comment

Pendle Finance expanded to Arbitrum, providing a cheaper way to access its yield management services.

Pendle splits up yield-bearing assets such as staked ether into their two components: the underlying token value and the yield. This makes it possible for traders to buy the asset without the yield and vice versa.

“By enabling yield tokenization, Pendle helps to unlock more utility for other ecosystems,” said Pendle CEO TN Lee, in a statement.

In the last few months, Pendle has partnered with protocols including Aura Finance, Balancer, Lido and RocketPool to add support for their assets. It has now partnered with decentralized exchange GMX, which runs on the Arbitrum network, to support its native asset.

Currently the protocol supports four staked ether tokens, Yuga Labs’s apecoin, the stablecoin USDC (via Convex Finance) and LOOKS, the native token of the NFT marketplace LooksRare.

Until now, the protocol had only been available on Ethereum, where it faced higher fees, and Avalanche, which is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain. Open / Comment
