Here is how to look at this...

You have an hourly job, say for $10 just to keep the numbers easy to imagine.

The boss calls a meeting of all the employees and says something along the lines of: "Hey you poors, everyone is getting a a $0.70 decrease in pay so now you make $9.30 instead of $10. Then they walk into the kitchen throw all of your bag lunches into trash and pisses on them."
