What is Binance Earn?

Binance Earn is a complete suite of financial products you can use to increase your crypto holdings. You can think of it as your crypto savings account. 

Let’s go through the main categories of Binance Earn so you can figure out which suits your investment style the best.

Flexible Savings

Flexible savings lets you earn interest on your funds. It’s really easy to use and gives you good flexibility. You can deposit your funds, earn interest, and redeem them at any time.

So, if you’re holding some money in your Spot Wallet, you can consider deposit it into a Flexible Savings account. Since you can access it any time, it’s easy to make those funds work for you while they’re not being used elsewhere.

Note that the interest will not be calculated on the day you subscribe to a Flexible Savings product. Instead, the first interest payment is calculated from the next day after your subscription.

Locked Savings

Locked Savings offer you better returns but less flexibility to access your funds. The difference here is that you’ll set a predetermined duration for your funds to accrue interest. Why is this better? Well, this will give you generally higher interest rates than Flexible Savings products since the term and interest rate are both fixed.

Locked Savings products can range from 7 to 90 days. So, if you know you won’t need some funds elsewhere for a certain period of time, you can lock them to earn at a higher interest rate.  Open / Comment

What Is Decentraland (MANA)?

Decentraland is a virtual world and community based on blockchain technology. Users develop and own plots of land, artwork, and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT). Members also participate in the platform’s Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). 

As a DAO, Decentraland gives its community the power to participate in the project’s governance. Decentraland’s native cryptocurrency, MANA, and all in-game assets are on the Ethereum blockchain.

How does Decentraland work?

Decentraland is an online space combining virtual reality with blockchain technology. Unlike most online games, players have direct control over the rules of the online world. The DAO allows token holders to vote directly on in-game and organizational policies. This mechanism affects everything, from the types of items allowed to investments for the DAO’s treasury.

To take part in the DAO’s governance, users convert their MANA into wrapped MANA (wMANA) and lock it in the DAO. Each wMANA represents one vote in governance proposals. You can get MANA on exchanges or by selling collectible items on the Decentraland Marketplace. The DAO also has its own MANA treasury to fund its decisions and operations.

LAND is a non-fungible token that represents the plots of land owned by players in the community. Similar to MANA, it also provides voting power as part of Decentraland’s governance protocol. 

However, LAND doesn’t need to be locked up in the DAO and provides two thousand votes per LAND token. Players with numerous plots can tie them together into a single Estate token, with voting power equal to the plots contained. Open / Comment

What is an investment DAO?
An investment DAO allows its members to decide when and where to invest its funds. This could be in real estate, DeFi investment vehicles, or any other asset the DAO chooses to invest in. An investment DAO uses the Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO) model to democratize and decentralize the whole investment process. 

Traditional models put investment power in the hands of a relatively small group of money managers of VC funds and family offices, and hedge funds. Alternatively, investment DAOs offer anyone holding its governance token the ability to make decisions regarding its investments. Instead of using the expertise of a narrow group of individuals, this model prioritizes the wisdom of the crowd when making investment decisions.

What is a DAO?

A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is an organization governed by smart contracts, self-executing pieces of code that run on a blockchain. DAO members deliberate and make decisions that are then executed using these smart contracts. A DAO, in effect, can function without human maintenance and run continuously. Even if DAO members lose interest or abandon the project, the DAO's framework will still live on due to its immutable nature.

The most common way DAOs make decisions is through voting mechanisms based on governance tokens. The more of the governance token you own, the more voting power you have. Some DAOs allow any member to make a proposal, while others may limit this right to a specific group. DAOs are used commonly to manage DeFi (Decentralised finance ) projects, blockchains, and other protocols in the crypto world. Open / Comment

What is a Soft fork?

A soft fork is a backward-compatible upgrade, meaning that the upgraded nodes can still communicate with the non-upgraded ones. What you typically see in a soft fork is the addition of a new rule that doesn’t clash with the older rules.
For example, a block size decrease can be implemented by soft-forking. Let’s once again draw on Bitcoin to illustrate this point: though there’s a limit on how big a block can be, there isn’t a limit on how small it can be. If you want to only accept blocks below a certain size, you just need to reject bigger ones.
However, doing so doesn’t automatically disconnect you from the network. You still communicate with nodes that aren’t implementing those rules, but you filter out some of the information they pass you.

A good real-life example of a soft fork was the aforementioned Segregated Witness (SegWit) fork, which occurred shortly after the Bitcoin/Bitcoin Cash split. SegWit was an update that changed the format of blocks and transactions, but it was cleverly crafted. Old nodes could still validate blocks and transactions (the formatting didn’t break the rules), but they just wouldn’t understand them. Some fields are only readable when nodes switch to the newer software, which allows them to parse additional data.

Even two years after SegWit activation, not all nodes have upgraded. There are advantages to doing so, but there’s no real urgency since there’s no network-breaking change. Open / Comment
