Al-Hadi (Arabic: الهادي) was the tenth caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate, ruling from 785 to 786 CE. He was the eldest son of the previous caliph, Mahdi, and was succeeded by his younger brother Harun al-Rashid. Al-Hadi's brief reign was marked by attempts to reconcile with the Alids, a branch of Shia Islam, as well as conflicts with the Byzantine Empire and the Khazars.
