Coinbase Cloud’s Solana Archival Nodes can examine historical address balances, run complex queries, and simulate the blockchain state at any given point in the chain’s history. Coinbase Cloud previously launched secure, dedicated Solana infrastructure nodes via Query & Transact.

Today, Coinbase Cloud is expanding that offering with the launch of Solana Archival Nodes. Managing archival nodes in a scalable way is technically challenging due to Solana’s high throughput design (~2–3 blocks/sec) and large data footprint (~100TB for all historical data). Solana builders can let Coinbase Cloud do the heavy lifting and access the archival data they need. Coinbase Cloud’s infrastructure is built to meet or exceed the security needs of highly regulated institutions.

Solana-based network Clockwork has raised $4 million in seed funding to grow its team that’s building a framework to decentralize autonomous tasks on a Solana validator, a component of the computing power behind the ecosystem, the company said Tuesday.

Clockwork, which was formerly known as Cronos, aims to solve the automation dilemma, in which developers must choose between using decentralized apps (dapps), or apps that are automated. Nick Garfield, co-founder of Clockwork, told CoinDesk that his company removes the need for a centralized cloud provider such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud to provide automated products for blockchains.

2022-08-31 08:57:02 Solana-based DEX OptiFi loses $661,000 permanently after mistakenly closing program

OptiFi said it used the "Solana close program" without fully understanding the impact of the action. Solana-based (SOL) decentralized exchange OptiFi mistakenly closed its program on August 29, losing $661,000 of its funds permanently. According to an announcement by the DEX, the mistake occurred around 06:00 UTC when its deployer tried to upgrade its program on the Solana mainnet.

The team explained that the deployer was trying to upgrade the OptiFi program using the anchor deploy. However, the process took longer than usual, probably because of network congestion. The deployer aborted this anchor deploy upgrade before getting a response. Meanwhile, the process had created an unused buffer account with a balance of 17.2023808 SOL. The team said the response from a Solana core developer “overwhelmingly” showed that it would be unable to re-deploy its program to the previous program id.

2022-08-30 17:22:02 Solana (Testnet) Reports 13,000 TPS on Latest Stress Test

Layer-1 blockchain project Solana could process around 13,000 transactions per second (TPS) in future releases. According to an image tweeted by Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko over the weekend, a recent Solana release hit the milestone TPS figure. Stress tests refer to the process of determining the extent to which a computer program or network can remain effective at peak usage.

Noteworthily, the latest stress test involves Solana Testnet release version 1.11 which is currently under development. Also, as the Solana Labs co-founder alluded to, the test results may return lower throughput on the mainnet since they do not include complex transactions such as those associated with DeFi protocols. Solana currently averages around 2000-3000 TPS on its mainnet. However, the layer-1 blockchain project has already rolled out several upgrades with a focus on solving its known liveness issue.

The popular Phantom Wallet has introduced the “burn NFT feature” that provides users rewards in SOL tokens for reporting spams in a bid to thwart the rampant frauds in the crypto space. The announcement comes close on the heels of a massive hacking attack.

In a recent tweet, Solana’s head of communications, Austin Fedora, said that “60 per cent of the wallets drained” in the attack were Phantom wallets. Phantom’s new feature encourages users to report scams and earn SOL tokens by burning NFTs. Revealing the details in a blog post on Thursday morning, Phantom said that users could find the new feature in the Collectible tab of the Phantom wallet app. In addition, it said the users would be rewarded with SOL tokens as “rent” when the burned token is removed from the wallet.

Solana-based wallet provider Phantom has launched a new burn feature allowing users to remove spam nonfungible tokens (NFTs) sent by scammers. According to a Thursday blog post from the Phantom team, the new feature is accessible via the Burn Token tab in the Phantom wallet app, allowing users to receive a minuscule deposit of Solana (SOL) each time they use it:

Phantom noted that the issue has been particularly prevalent on Solana due to its low transaction fees, with bad actors often airdropping supposedly free NFTs en masse, which contain malicious links. Spam NFT generally prompts the receiver to click a link to mint a free NFT. If they complete the process, however, their funds end up being drained from their wallet. Alternatively, the link will ask the receiver to input their seed phrase, resulting in the same outcome. The move is part of a broader initiative by Phantom.
