Dear Community,

We are happy to inform you that we have identified the issue behind the slowdown observed due to the staking contract. We have implemented the necessary fixes which will be tested over the next couple of days.

What does this mean for you?

We will release a new mainnet upgrade with the fixes.
When: Thursday, May 27, 2021.
Start time: UTC 05:00 hrs
End time: UTC 11:00 hrs

All staking-related activities may resume post-upgrade.

What was the cause?

We identified the main reason behind the slowdown was that the staking contract performs a certain number of deletions of entries in the contract state and these deletions were not efficiently implemented at the core platform side. This required each deletion to read the entire state of the contract creating an I/O overhead eventually leading to a network slowdown.
