Days after the two institutions agreed on the need for cross-border crypto payments, the finance ministry and the central bank of Russia are once again highlighting their different priorities. While the treasury department aims for legalizing cryptocurrency payments in the coming months, the monetary authority says it will “actively promote” its digital currency for international settlements.

The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) will “actively promote” the employment of the digital ruble in cross-border payments, its Governor Elvira Nabiullina stated in a documentary aired by the Russia-24 TV channel. The film was devoted to the 220th anniversary of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. The department recently announced it had reached an agreement with the monetary authority on the need to legalize international crypto payments.

The Bellatrix upgrade was activated at epoch 144896 on the Beacon Chain at 11:34 AM UTC today. Before the Bellatrix upgrade could go through, Ethereum nodes had to update their client software versions.

While Bellatrix is not The Merge itself, it’s a necessary step to prepare Beacon Chain for the consensus switch. The Bellatrix upgrade was the hard fork upgrade that introduced what's called "execution payload," a parameter that’s so far been missing on the Beacon Chain. This parameter is needed for validators to start creating mainnet blocks.

The final step is called Paris, which will trigger The Merge. Beacon Chain (consensus layer) validators will take over from proof-of-work miners to start finalizing Ethereum’s mainnet blocks.

In preparation for the Cardano (ADA) blockchain hard fork upgrade, Vasil, which is slated to go live on the mainnet on September 22, the decentralized finance (DeFi) cryptocurrency has experienced a significant increase in the amount of capital flowing into its market cap over the last week.

In particular, Cardano has seen over $2.1 billion enter its market capitalization over the last seven days as it went from $14.6 billion on August 29 to $16.7 billion on September 5, according to data retrieved by Finbold using CoinMarketCap. Currently, Cardano is trading at $0.48, down 1.% on the day but up in double digits across the week by as much as 13%. Regarding the Cardano price action, crypto trading expert Michaël van de Poppe believes ‘Cardano looks ready for continuation’ ahead of the upgrade.
