While the broader cryptocurrency market stages recovery after last week’s selloff, meme coin Shiba Inu (SHIB) has risen over 9% today and recorded a weekly high. SHIB, the 12th-largest cryptocurrency, has a market capitalization of $8.01 billion and currently trades at around $0.00001439, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

SHIB's upwards price action is primarily a result of a spike in the token's burn rate earlier this week, and expectations around the launch of Shibarium (a layer-2 blockchain to be launched by Shiba Inu). Nearly 110 million SHIB tokens have been burned over the past 24 hours, and 40% of the total SHIB supply has been burned to date, as per data from Shibburn. Shibburn portal has spread the word that, in the last two days, roughly one-third of a billion Shiba Inu were sent to unspendable wallets, currently raising the SHIB burn rate. According to a tweet from an active burner of Shiba Inu tokens, part of this amount was eliminated via Amazon and the new SHIB burn portal.

In a recent tweet, Shibburn stated that in the past 24 hours, it has spotted that a total of 213,067,021 SHIB were removed from the supply of the second most popular canine token in circulation. This was achieved in 14 transactions and pushed the overall burn rate of SHIB up more than 90%. Prior to that, as covered by U.Today earlier, 176,545,974 Shiba Inu had been burned in 29 transfers in dead-end wallets. On Tuesday, the SHIB burn rate was up 256.13%, according to the Shibburn website.

Dogecoin (DOGE) is down 5.2% over the past 24 hours and trades at $0.065, according to data from CoinMarketCap.The leading meme coin enjoyed a hefty surge last week, following the launch of Dogechain, an independent blockchain built using Polygon Edge, a custom blockchain creation tool from Polygon.

DOGE rallied past its 10-week high following the announcement. Shortly after, however, Jens Wiechers, the legal and governance president of the Dogecoin Foundation, said that Dogechain was not affiliated with Dogecoin. Following the announcement, DOGE plummeted, shedding 12.4% over the past week. Weekly losses put DOGE down 90.95% from its all-time high of $0.7376 recorded in May 2021, as per data from CoinMarketCap.
