Microsoft Cloud intends to support companies in the metaverse by offering public mixed reality technology integration services, according to a 24. Oct report by Arab News. Ihsan Anabtawi, COO of Microsoft’s UAE branch, revealed multiple products in the works to bring the software giant’s vision of the metaverse to life.

Microsoft views the metaverse through presence and connection in any space to enable people to build connections in the hybrid world. The company aims to engage employees and customers from the workplace in immersive worlds for new experiences, such as assuming the role of a creator and being part of a community. Anatabwi believes the metaverse is important in bolstering the UAE’s digital and workplace transformation and streamlining operations and business models.

Third-quarter trading volume for the top 10 metaverse projects may have fallen 80% compared to the second quarter, but analytics firm DappRadar suggests that interest in virtual worlds still remains. The metaverse sector has been hit with a fair amount of negative press as of late.

DappRadar noted in an Oct. 20 report that while trading volumes have taken a sharp hit during Q3, the average number of NFT sales for these 10 projects only decreased by 11.55% compared to Q2. A caveat to these sentiments, however, is that eight of the top 10 metaverse projects saw significant decreases in their nonfungible token (NFT) sales counts during Q3, with Yuga Labs’ Otherside seeing a 74% decrease for the quarter.

The U.S.-based film and entertainment studio Warner Bros will release the fantasy classic The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as a series of collectible NFTs. The drop marks Warner Bros as one of the first major media conglomerates to drop digital collectibles from its popular films.

Users can pick from two options for The Lord of the Rings NFTs. There’s the “Mystery Edition” in which the user randomly mints a common, uncommon or rare NFT respectively based on The Shire, Rivendell and Mines of Moria locations in the film. Minting one of these NFTs also gives the user access to the extended 4K version of the film, eight hours of special features and commentary, as well as location-specific images and AR collectibles. This option contains 10,000 NFTs costing $30 each.

The position includes executing strategic partnerships to expand the MLB’s digital portfolio in NFTs, metaverse, wearable technology and AR/VR offerings, according to a LinkedIn post, suggesting that the MLB will look to broaden its digital asset launches and metaverse presence in the future.

The MLB has made some other splashes in web3 this year. In January, the League started selling NFTs via a partnership with Candy Digital, a digital collectibles company co-founded by major web3 executives Mike Novogratz, Gary Vaynerchuk and Michael Rubin. The MLB also teamed up with the NFT-based fantasy sports firm Sorare to sell collectable NFTs.

The purchase of 149 Cottage Lake Way, Columbia was made possible via Roofstock onChain, the web3 subsidiary of real estate company Roofstock. The buyer, real estate investor Adam Slipakoff, said he was able to buy a fully title-insured, rent-ready property with one click.

Founded in 2015, Roofstock specialises in single-family rental properties and has facilitated more than $5 billion in investment transactions to date. This marks the first NFT sale by the company. The company’s chief blockchain officer, Geoff Thompson, called the sale a “major milestone” in providing a simple way for buyers to purchase rental properties. Each rental property sold on its platform via NFT is owned by an individual single-purpose Limited Liability Company (LLC) registered.
