Multiple emirates in the UAE are looking to the metaverse to boost tourism in their respective regions. Sharjah now joins Dubai in broadening its Web3 ambitions. Artificial intelligence ecosystem Multiverse Labs has launched a new metaverse city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a move the emirate said could enhance the region’s tourism industry.

The metaverse city is backed by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, or SCTDA, which is the main government agency tasked with promoting the emirate’s tourism industry. SCTDA’s chairman, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, said the new initiative is intended to transform “the mass market tourism industry towards next-generation, sustainable practices.” As such, Sharjahverse is said to provide “unprecedented access to almost any location” in the emirate.

2022-10-11 17:40:04 Dapper Labs Suspends NFT Operations for Russian Users Amid New EU Sanctions

Canadian company Dapper Labs has blocked operations with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for Russian accounts. The move follows a new round of sanctions recently imposed by the EU which prohibit the provision of crypto-related services to Russian residents and entities. Dapper Labs, the creators of the Flow blockchain network and projects like Cryptokitties and NBA Top Shot.

The eighth package of EU sanctions was approved by Brussels on Thursday, Oct. 6, after the latest escalation of the conflict with Russia announcing partial mobilization and taking steps to annex four Ukrainian regions through what the bloc sees as fake referendums. The penalties, targeting the Russian economy, government and foreign trade, also feature financial measures affecting the business activities of crypto companies.

Oxford University opened its doors to NFTs last week with its inaugural OxBAT (Oxford Blockchain, Art & Technology) Conference. Billed as “the first multi-disciplinary conference on the aesthetic, social, and anthropological perspectives on blockchain art,” it represented a very different take on crypto and NFTs.

"HODL" t-shirts and rousing speeches about how crypto will change the world were nowhere to be seen; in their place were sober academic discussions on the aesthetics of NFTs, their cultural significance, and how the unique properties of blockchain technology might be used to create new forms of art. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has launched an NFT campaign with Metabillia that will pay him a total of $1 million, Yahoo Finance has learned. As a result, the 19-year-old's total compensation through name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals is now approaching the $4 million mark.

The average NIL quarterback sponsorship pays the athlete $2,466 per deal, according to Opendorse. Ewers's $1 million sponsorship is broken into 12 payments of various amounts well above the average on top of 50% revenue share. College athletes were cleared to profit from their NIL on June 30, 2021, when the NCAA made the groundbreaking decision to approve an interim policy that would allow all student-athletes to profit from their NIL.

Thailand-based Translucia has onboarded Sunovatech, which specialises in immersive and extended reality, for its USD 3 billion metaverse project, the Indian firm said. The partnership marks the entry of Translucia in India. Translucia is a subsidiary of T&B Media Global run by Chearavanont family members.

The global alliance includes Singapore-based digital asset bank Sygnum, Melbourne-based metaverse research and development centre Two Bulls, and Chines creative firm Black Flame. Under the partnership, Sunovatech will act as a production hub for building 3D assets, environments and modules of the metaverse. Sunovatech founder Rishi Ahuja, who is a self-trained technologist, said that the USD 3 billion investment.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) took the world by storm in 2021 but have since witnessed a major drop in interest as their sales volumes keep decreasing, caught in a difficult period along with the rest of the cryptocurrency industry. Indeed, the sales of NFTs on OpenSea – the largest marketplace for digital collectibles – plummeted in the third quarter of 2022.

In late September, Finbold reported on NFT monthly trading volume declining for the fifth consecutive month, crashing 97% since its peak in January, and ending up at barely $466 million in September, as per Dune Analytics information. Earlier, in August, data had shown that the NFT trade activity in the second quarter had already plummeted 40% as the interest in digital collectibles dwindled amid significant challenges faced by the crypto sector. At the same time, it was also revealed at the end of August.
