Oil prices fell more than 1.5% over the last 24h after the API said that crude oil stockpiles rose 2.3 million barrels in the week ending Oct. 22 (vs. +1.9 million barrels expected). Gasoline inventories rose by 500,000 barrels and distillate stocks increased by 1 million barrels, compared with a forecast for both to drop. Brent has been rising for 8 weeks, WTI for even 10 weeks. The majority of analyst see oil prices heavily overbought since weeks - we traded against the market, bought most of the dips and have been right EVERY SINGLE TIME. However, more selling is possible given oil's strong rise and I would consider it nothing more than a healthy correction. In my opinion, oil prices have still room to rise, in particular with falling temperatures in the northern hemisphere. While the API data had a strong impact, the data from the crude oil storage tanks in Cushing, Oklahoma was completely overlooked by analysts. Inventories at Cushing have fallen to 31.2 million barrels, the lowest level since October 2018 or about half of where inventories were at this time a year ago. I think that's the more important data, even though no media outlet or analyst is talking about it. We are buying the dip, which has been stronger in WTI.

We have been trading the forex markets extremely well recently and in particular made strong profits with the weakening JPY (also today's AUD/JPY ended well in profit). We now update all our open FX positions. The CAD/JPY remains in sideways movement after strong recent gains. I expect more upside potential for the CAD tomorrow, when the BoC likely positions itself rather hawkish. I expect the BoC to raise inflation expectations and give hints of a tighter monetary policy. The JPY remains weak due to expectations that the Bank of Japan remains dovish and accommodative for longer (interest rate decision on Thursday). We also set a tight SL for our EUR/USD and secure profits with our GBP/AUD-position, which is very deep in profit after strong AUD gains (due to higher commodity prices / better risk sentiment).

Not a single investment bank downgraded Facebook. Not a single well-known analyst rated Facebook's earnings report as negative. JPMorgan and Rosenblatt even upgraded Facebook or increased FB's price target. We positioned us completely against them. We were right again. After a positive opening, Facebook experienced heavy losses. Also the world's most valuable automaker, Tesla, saw some profit taking and pushed the Nasdaq close to yesterday's closing rate and below 15600 again. I don't expect broad sell-off and believe that earnings reports from Apple, Microsoft and AMD will come in strong. A possible supply chain warning from Apple could be a risk factor, but Apple seems to have solved most of the supply chain disruptions lately. The inventor of the iPhone continues to expand its own chip manufacturing capacities. Our Nasdaq hit our SL (deep in profit). We get back in now at a much better price and want to benefit from more gains in tech overnight / this week.

We are/were again ahead of the markets. The Nasdaq 100 is close to all-time highs again (exactly as we expected). Investors push back in tech stocks ahead of important earnings of some of the Wall Street's biggest names. Also our Microsoft position is well in profit (we stay LONG). We made the best possible (major) FX pair trade today - our AUD/JPY pushed deep in profit but found some resistance at 86.000.

Solid company earnings and a call between China’s Vice Premier Liu He and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen lifted market sentiment. The USD is mostly flat even as safe haven demand is lower after better than expected earnigns, but a touch higher against the euro, which is still dragged by expectation that the ECB will keep its monetary policy accommodative for longer and soft German data on Monday. No changes are expected from the Bank of Japan, which continues to weigh on the JPY. While most central banks are planning to end emergency stimulus measures and gradually hike rates in the upcoming 6 - 18 months, the BoJ has not announced any plans like this. The Australian dollar benefits from an improved risk sentiment and high commodity prices. Countries in Asia, including China, as well as Europe are facing a power crises, which will continue to keep coal, natural gas and oil prices up. Australia is the world's fourth largest coal producer. China is not purchasing coal from Australia, but the increasing global demand keeps coal prices on the global market up - I think that China's import ban of coal from Australia has a lower impact than many economists believe as Australia will find other buyers - which is also reflected by Australia's export earnings - which continue to rise and remain at record levels.
