Marvel Comics and Funko have announced they’re working together on a new digital/physical figure via VeVe that features Iron Man. Releasing on October 18th, the collaboration “merges the realms of physical and digital collecting.” Marvel and VeVe have been in the NFT business since 2021 after VeVe announced its plans to be the first-ever carbon-neutral NFT platform. The collaboration is in celebration of 60 years of the character’s rich comic book history.

Several non-fungible token (NFT) creators and artists are seeking alternative platforms to sell their work after OpenSea stopped mandating creator royalties at its marketplace. NFTs represent some of the most promising profit opportunities for digital artists. With NFT royalties, creators can earn a percentage of the sale each time an NFT is sold and subsequently resold. Many creators, including pseudonymous generative artist Zancan, hope NFTs will empower independent artists with an additional source of revenue.

OpenSea’s decision comes during a difficult time for the entire NFT market that saw significant declines. The Forkast 500 NFT Index hit a new all-time low of 1,999.14 points on Sept. 19. “Removing royalties is shooting a bullet in one’s foot,” Zancan, the creator behind Garden, Monoliths NFT collection, told Forkast. “I’m a supporter of artists’ royalties. This is the best thing that’s ever happened to artists and the art world at large. This is a major point in the reason why anyone would adopt blockchain technology to distribute their art or collect the art.” Zancan’s Garden, Monoliths is a Tezos-based NFT collection that generated over 1.2 million worth of Tezos (US$788,040) in secondary sales. With a 15% royalty fee, the collection generated over US$118,000 of royalties for the creator.

The AIP-297 proposal was co-authored by Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu in July, with an objective to "position ApeCoin as the culture token to power the broader web3 ecosystem," according to the voting page. The proposed list of floor price NFTs to be acquired includes eight Bored Ape Yacht Club, 12 Mutant Ape Yacht Club, 15 Bored Ape Kennel Club, 15 Cool Cats, 15 World of Women and 12 Pudgy Penguins. The NFTs will be managed by a community-governed vault, with decisions made by sister DAO members holding at least 1 APE token ($1.16), the page adds.

The proposal would enable the sister DAO to lease the NFT IPs to APE holders, with potential APE grants on offer soon. The authors argue this will benefit the ApeCoin ecosystem by leading to greater adoption and utility for ApeCoin beyond its current applications, enabling the community to utilize the NFTs without having to deploy capital and own the NFTs themselves. The proposal's recommended budget of 750,000 APE from the ApeCoin DAO treasury includes 500,000 APE for purchasing NFTs across various marketplaces that "align with the vision and values of ApeCoin" and 250,000 APE reserved for future NFT purchases and initial vault maintenance.
