2022-08-30 23:50:09 OpenSea Trading Volume Down 99% From All-Time High

Think the cryptocurrency market has it rough? Take a look at what happened to non-fungible tokens – aka NFTs. Data from DappRadar shows that trading volume at OpenSea – the world’s largest NFT marketplace – has fallen by 99% in less than four months. While the company contested the figure to some degree, it admitted that the substantial slowdown in activity is both real and expected. According to DappRadar’s statistics page, the daily trading volume of ETH at OpenSea peaked above $400 million on May 1st. By comparison, the platform only generated $5 million in ETH volume on August 28th.

Bored Ape Yacht Club has seen its sales outperform competitor projects such as Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), Art Blocks, Otherdeed, NBA Top Shot, Azuki, CloneX, VeeFriends, and Moonbirds. More importantly, BAYC’s $2.4 billion in sales volume has exceeded one of the most successful digital collectibles projects, CryptoPunks. Launched in April 2021, Bored Ape Yacht Club is comprised of 10,000 unique NFT digital collectible ape avatars. Like most NFTs, the project struggled in its first month generating just $37,557 in sales. There were 141 unique buyers and 176 total transactions.

According to a recent blog post, 0xfanfaron, CEO of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) gaming project Ragnarok, apologized publicly for his missteps in leading the company. Ragnark is a crypto startup that brought in $15.5 million worth of Ether for gaming development in April through its first-ever NFT sale. 0xfanfaron further elaborated that he sold the firm's Ether positions through a series of trades with the plan to reinvest at a "better time." The venture led to $1.827 million in realized losses.

One of the researchers from Google based out of London, Ben Mildenhall, in June 2022, released a snippet of their newly developed 3D reconstruction model called RawNeRF. This new tool creates well-lit 3D scenes from 2D images. It has been built on their open-source project called MultiNeRF. Mildenhall teased a video of their latest development using NeRF, combining their mip-NeRF 360, RawNeRF, and Ref-NeRF models. The combination was able to create a 3D space by synthesising and syncing 500 images.

The popular Phantom Wallet has introduced the “burn NFT feature” that provides users rewards in SOL tokens for reporting spams in a bid to thwart the rampant frauds in the crypto space. The announcement comes close on the heels of a massive hacking attack. In a recent tweet, Solana’s head of communications, Austin Fedora, said that “60 per cent of the wallets drained” in the attack were Phantom wallets. Phantom’s new feature encourages users to report scams and earn SOL tokens by burning NFTs. Revealing the details in a blog post on Thursday morning, Phantom said that users could find the new feature in the Collectible tab of the Phantom wallet app.

Faith-based virtual reality spaces are allowing users to pilgrimage to and explore some of the holiest cities, experience rituals, pray and worship in the metaverse.
