Cybersecurity fears likely to make businesses Metaverse averse

The
virtual world of the Metaverse is already attracting people to attend virtual events and play games. It also has the potential for businesses to make money -- research from McKinsey suggests it could be a $5 trillion industry by 2030. In addition 37 percent say their organization has already been attacked in some way related to the Metaverse. Currently only one in ten IT decision makers say their organization is operating in the Metaverse, while 52 percent expect to be there within the next five years or sooner and 35 percent do not have plans to explore or adopt the Metaverse at all. Around 50 percent say security concerns, risks to data privacy and lack of end user interest are among the top three reasons impacting their rate of adoption.

Dubai: Celebrating Diwali on Metaverse could soon be a reality

Celebrating
Diwali on Metaverse could soon be a reality in Dubai, as social interactions are being transformed using technology, says Dr Aman Puri, Consulate General of India, Dubai. Dr Puri was speaking at The Consulate General of India and Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism’s launch of the Diwali festival at Al Seef on Monday. The ten-day-long festivities that start on October 14 2022 in the emirate will include live cultural performances on stage, including a magnificent firework display at Festival City. Diwali Markets will also be dotted around the city where visitors can shop for unique handicrafts, silverware, Diwali specific decorative items and colourful Indian outfits. They can also sample several delicious Indian snacks and beverages, and may even win grand prizes during raffle draws. So I think bringing all this together using technology will definitely enable people to engage with the experience of Diwali.

Banks can’t afford to roll their eyes at the metaverse

With
virtual assets already being traded and sold in the metaverse, there is an inevitable demand that financial services, specifically banking, ensure secure payments, investments and transactions for all customers. We take physical and online banking security measures for granted. Luckily, banks have a long history of dealing with fraud in the real and online markets. Forward-thinking banks are already thinking about the metaverse as well, as they seek to capitalize on the untapped potential that an immersive, memorable and personalized customer experience offers. Pilot programs are already underway for connected experiences in areas such as 3D banking and personalized virtual banking.
