Robot taught to "trust the feeling"

ANYmal,
a four-legged robot from the Robotics Systems Laboratory at ETH Zurich, effortlessly traverses 120 meters vertically in a 31-minute hike.

That's four minutes faster than the estimated duration for human walkers, and without falling or missteps.

Thanks to a new neural network-based controller, the robot combines external and proprioceptive (touch based on direct foot contact with the surface) perception.

The robot can master the most challenging natural terrain without even seeing it before. This works even if the sensor data about the immediate surroundings is ambiguous or vague.

Floating tunnels in Norway

By 2035, the world's first floating tunnel is to be built 30 meters under the surface of the water. In total, a network of underwater concrete tunnels will reduce the journey from some regions of the country to 10 hours.

However, landscape conditions do not allow for such solutions everywhere. That is why engineers decided to build underwater tunnels. More than 22 billion euros will have to be spent to implement such an idea.

Sony showed off a new robot with a hybrid design

Four wheels at the corners
allow the robot to adjust the height before lifting, first increasing it on all four wheels and then decreasing it on the front wheels to reduce the inclination of the body.

In addition to the main wheels, the robot features two more: they are located in the middle, front and back.

These wheels not only extend vertically, but also tilt forward. Thanks to this, the robot can drive up to an elevated position and move the central wheel to it first, and then pull up the side wheels.

The robot is capable of driving with a load of up to 20 kilograms.

Gazelle Tech integrated a solar panel into the car

French company Gazelle Tech developed a special awning with solar panels for its own electric car Gazelle.

Awning covers an area of 4 square meters. It can automatically open at the parking lot, fully covering the top of the car, protecting it from the external environment in one minute.

In addition to the normal protective functions, the awning has a set of flexible solar panels, which in 8 hours recharge the batteries of the car, adding another 30 km to the range.

Underwater Wi-Fi

Designers in Saudi Arabia have developed a technology that could be one of the effective options for underwater Wi-Fi.

Light beams are used for high-speed data transfer. BEDs provide short-range communication and lasers provide long-range communication.

The speed is not great yet, but it is sufficient for transmitting multimedia files.
