I don't understand investors who are worried about market crashes. Most of them haven’t even formed their own capital yet.

Why would you suffer at the first sight of your portfolio’s virtual drop in the value?

And why would you rejoice when the indicators on your brokerage account turn green?

It should be exactly the opposite.

If you take the Russian market for example, then you will see a long-lasting Black Friday that has been stretched out for many years for us that will someday end.

Usually people rarely try to climb higher in terms of their lifestyle. That's because they're scared.

They only start to act when the pressure is really high. Before the pressure is on, there is no reason to climb, because I would be a risk.

Has somebody ever tried and climbed this obstacle? If so, they're just lucky.

But the main risk is not to get in at all. There's nothing good waiting for them down there.

2021-09-18 20:17:49 I am an amateur investor. I know far less about investing than professional market participants. However, that doesn't stop me from living off my capital in any way.

I also cherish the meetings and friendly relationships I have with other private investors. Why so? Because they risk THEIR OWN money, not their clients' money.

We (amateurs) have many advantages over the pros. What are the advantages? I'll try to list them all down below.

No one criticizes marathon runners for doing things completely differently from powerlifters, despite both being athletes. But when people use the common label “investors,” that same logic breaks down.

Continuing the cow series.

Would you sell a cow for the price of one bucket of milk? Of course not. That's absurd!
But that's what investors do in times of crisis.
The best businesses in the country are sold at the price of a street food cafe.
The best banks are being sold away for less than their book value.
The best businesses are sold at the cost of their 2-3 annual profits.
During the crisis, you only have to think about one thing. Will you have the $12.50 to buy a cow for the price of one bucket of milk?

2021-08-19 20:17:15 About once a week, an aggressive person pops up in my blog and starts foaming at the mouth to prove that my approach is very risky.

So, we debate for a while, exchanging arguments. By the second or third comment, an angry investor usually cites charts and tables as evidence. As soon as I see a ruler in his hands, I immediately lose interest in the argument because I understand that there is an inexperienced investor in front of me. And this investor doesn’t understand much about the risks.

I learn a lot from my kids. They understand a lot more about happiness than adults.
It makes no difference to them whether it's a sandbox next to our home or a sandbox next to a five-star hotel.
Adults are different.

Here is a recent example. I went on a mini-vacation to Saint-Petersburg with my daughters and nephews.
Our plans consisted of visiting museums, theaters, and beautiful palaces.
But all the plans got thrown away.

What do you think they did when they got to Palace Square? They started playing soccer.

2021-07-30 20:17:56 For many years I was an entrepreneur. I built businesses, I was in charge of marketing and sales. One of my main jobs was to create entities in the heads of potential buyers. We used the buzzwords “upsell,” “cross-sell,” etc. And we were pretty good at selling.

Has this knowledge helped me in life? Not at all. For years I was a victim of exactly the same marketers. What can I say. I still occasionally fall for their bait.

Is it possible to make a quick buck in investing?

Imagine that you are standing at the bus stop and waiting for a shuttle bus. A long waiting line has formed.
There is also information that the bus will take only three people. And these three passengers will arrive at the destination very quickly.

What should you choose?

Not waiting for the shuttle bus and walking to the desired destination.
You will get there later, but you will definitely get there.

Take a risk and try to get on the shuttle bus.
If you're lucky, you'll get to your destination very quickly. If not, you will lose time and money.
