User ethers worth $10 million stolen from MetaMask wallets
According to MetaMask developer Tai (Tau), since December 2022, more than 5,000 ethers have been stolen from MetaMask wallets. At the current moment, the stolen ether is estimated at $ 10.5 million, and it is already known that the hacking was carried out in a very sophisticated way by an experienced hacker.

The developer of MetaMask assumes that the hacker obtains a cache of data from the victim's device and "methodically intercepts the keys when people turn to their tools."
It is known that all the victims have something in common - the keys to their wallets were created in the period from 2014 to 2022. According to the developer of MetaMask, the hacker commits a secondary theft a few hours after the first and removes the assets and dust that he missed at first. Major thefts are carried out by exchanging assets for ether, and then swapping for bitcoins through a centralized service. A week later, bitcoins pass through the cryptomixer, which makes it difficult for them to be further tracked.
