Polygon releases a decentralized identification system driven by ZK proofs
Polygon, a scaling protocol for Ethereum, has launched a zero-knowledge decentralized identity solution called Polygon ID, almost a year after it was first announced.
The new service uses zero-knowledge proofs that allow users to verify their identities without having their sensitive information passed or potentially stored with a third party.
The public release includes four new tools to the Polygon ID toolset that will allow developers to integrate decentralized identity into their applications. Users can produce zero-knowledge proofs using off-chain credentials to interact with smart contracts and verify information on-chain.
Polygon claims it's the first zero-knowledge-based digital ID tool that allows users to hold credentials locally on handheld devices such as smartphones, eliminating the need for passwords.
David Schwartz, the co-founder of Polygon ID, said that the product was built on the latest decentralized identity standards, which will help protect developers and users against unauthorized access from third parties.
