In a survey commissioned by Coda Labs, 6,921 people from five countries were asked a series of questions to determine their perception of crypto, NFTs and Web3 gaming. A new survey commissioned by blockchain entertainment provider Coda Labs suggests that despite the huge amount of money being poured into Web3 gaming, traditional gamers are still yet to warm up to crypto or nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and have little interest in Web3 games. According to the survey, gamers pointed to practical barriers as their main reason for shying away from Web3 games, with gamers often not knowing how they might work and lacking a blockchain wallet.

The web3 ecosystem lost over $428.7 million to 39 exploits in the third quarter — down 62.9% compared to over $1 billion lost in the same period of 2021. The Nomad Bridge and Wintermute hacks account for 79.85% — $350 million — of all recorded losses. Over 98% of the losses occurred on DeFi platforms, amounting to $423.4 million across 36 incidents. CeFi exchanges suffered a $5.2 million loss across 3 cases. Leading Bug bounty firm Immunefi detailed in its Crypto Losses report that about $398.9 million was lost to 30 incidents of hacks. In comparison, nine fraud cases claimed approximately $29.8 million, including $24.5 million lost to project rug pulls. On Aug. 2, cross-chain protocol Nomad Bridge suffered an exploit that drained 100% of its liquidity, worth approximately $190 million.

Web3 data startup Golden has raised $40 million in a Series B round led by the crypto arm of noted venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), according to a post on the company’s website. The capital, which brings total funding up to $60 million, will help Golden build its decentralized and incentivized data protocol. A16z co-founder Marc Andreessen served on Golden’s board of directors prior to the fundraise, and a16z partner Ali Yahya will now join the board. A16z set a new industry record in May with a $4.5 billion commitment for its fourth crypto-focused venture capital fund.
