CoinFund
, a New York-based web3 investment firm, is looking to raise $250 million to invest in seed-stage startups just three months after announcing its previous fund. CoinDesk first reported the news. The company's Cayman Islands-domiciled funds are looking to raise $130 million and $20 million, while its Delaware-incorporated vehicle is seeking $100 million. Web3 fund led by ex-Binance Labs executive Nicole Zhang lands $20 million

Lingfeng
Innovation Fund (LIF), a new venture capital fund led by former Binance Labs executive Nicole Zhang, landed $20 million to invest in crypto startups. The $20 million in fundraising is a “first close” for the fund, according to Zhang, who is a founding partner at LIF. It is ultimately targeting $30 million. A key focus for LIF will be “enabling web2 elites with web3 expertise,” according to Zhang. LIF has already made 10 investments — half of them co-investing with Zhang’s former colleagues at Binance Labs. Its bets include ApolloX, ZetaChain and Ultiverse.

Mark Zuckerberg cast as web3 supervillain in forthcoming game

Mark
Zuckerberg may love the metaverse, but here’s one upcoming web3 game he may not be too happy about. The Rabbit Hole features characters that are “posed to defend Web3 from the corporate overlord, Metazuckbot.”. The NFT launch came the same day as Meta's dismal Q3 earnings announcement. While Zuckerberg believes his investment in the metaverse will pay dividends in the long term, he’s having trouble convincing people — including at his own company. A poll of Meta employees in May found only 58% understood the company’s metaverse strategy. Maybe Metazuckbot will have more metaverse success.

Google Cloud Introduces Blockchain Node Engine for Web3 Development

Google
Cloud announced its Blockchain Node Engine for Web3 development on Friday. The company, in a press release, said the launch is a commitment to help Web3 developers to build and deploy new products on blockchain-based platforms. Blockchains consist of transaction data which are encrypted and stored permanently, and act as decentralised databases of sorts. Besides relying on a central entity to validate data, the governing infrastructure is a node — a device, such as a laptop or server, that contains the whole copy of the transaction history of the blockchain. While self-managed nodes require constant management and are difficult to deploy, Google’s Blockchain Node Engine is a hosting service that minimises the need for node operations.
