Web3 gaming protocol Heroic Story raised $6 million in a seed round led by Upfront Ventures with participation from Multicoin Capital and Polygon Technology, the company announced on Nov. 17. The funds will be used to hire talent, market the live beta and develop on-chain technology for a massively multiplayer role-playing game (RPG) world, the company told Cointelegraph. The round brings Heroic Story’s total financing to $7.4 million. Other investors included strategic angels, such as a16z Games Fund One founding investor Jonathan Lai, Team Liquid CEO Steve Arhancet and Quantstamp CEO Richard Ma, alongside Miramax head of film Wolfgang Hammer and screenwriting duo Ryan and Kaz Firpo, who are cousins and co-writers of Marvel’s Eternals.

Blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi) focused security platform Certik’s investigation led to the discovery of the professional “KYC actors” who bypass KYC processes to scam crypto communities, according to a Nov. 17 Certik blog post. A KYC actor is defined as an individual who rogue developers hire to spoof the KYC process on crypto projects. Certik uncovered tactics used to carry out hacks and exit scams from an interview with a KYC actor and through probing into activities taking place in over 20 over-the-counter (OTC) underground markets, mainly concentrated on Telegram, Discord, low-requirement phone-based applications, and job advertisements. Certik found that of 4,000 to 300,000 KYC actors based in South-East Asia.

Development company Anode Labs has raised $4.2 million in a seed round to build a decentralized network that will pay individuals and small businesses for their energy storage assets. The round is co-led by Lerer Hippeau and Lattice Capital, according to a company release. Other backers include VaynerFund, CoinShares and Digital Currency Group. Co-founded by Jason Badeaux, Dallas Griffin and Evan Caron, Anode Labs is building the React network, which will enable individuals and small businesses to connect their storage batteries to the network and in turn earn passive income in the form of cash and tokenized assets for their contribution. Most data from those assets will live on web3 data warehouse Space and Time, which has raised $30 million this year. An oracle will then connect the relevant data.

Blockchain4Ukraine — a group of pro-crypto Ukrainian lawmakers — and the public union Virtual Assets of Ukraine (VAU) revealed a joint roadmap for promoting and developing Web3 in the country. The document was signed by its co-authors on Nov. 14, according to regional media. The roadmap proposes a set of measures for promoting Web3, such as the launch of a regulatory sandbox for blockchain and Web3 projects, creation of a national blockchain-backed land and realty register, preparation of a “blockchain plan” to rebuild the country after the war, and integration of Ukraine into the European Blockchain Partnership.VAU and Blockchain4Ukraine also intend to work on a self-sovereign identity pilot project and to seek ways of implementing blockchain into Ukraine’s healthcare and education systems.

Sports brand Nike already is one of the most successful brands in web3. Now, it's going to promote virtual shoes and other items on its own platform. Currently in beta but expected to launch its first digital collection next year, .Swoosh (pronounced “dot swoosh”) will let Nike fans to collect and even co-create virtual items with the company. Nike has earned a total of $185 million in NFT revenue, according to data published on Dune Analytics. Of that, $93 million came from primary sales revenue and $92 million from royalties. It launched an experience in November 2021 on the ever more brand-crowded gaming platform Roblox, attracting more than 26 million visits to date. The following month it acquired NFT studio RTFKT and has been pumping out collections ever since.

Nike says .SWOOSH will be a resource for Web3 education and a platform to buy and trade digital collectibles, such as virtual sneakers or jerseys. These items can be worn in video games and other immersive experiences, the company says.“We are shaping a marketplace of the future with an accessible platform for the Web3-curious. In this new space, the .SWOOSH community and Nike can create, share, and benefit together,” Ron Faris, GM of Nike Virtual Studios, said in a press release.
