2022-07-16 07:23:02 Ethereum Devs Pencil In September Date For Merge

Members of the Ethereum community have set their sights on a new date for the blockchain's long-awaited Merge.Come September 19, the network is expected to merge from its current state as a proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain to an energy-efficient proof-of-stake (PoS) network.

The Beacon Chain is the PoS version of Ethereum currently running in parallel to the PoW-based mainnet. It launched in December 2020, marking the beginning of the multi-stage upgrade.The Merge event planned for September will effectively move Ethereum activity over to the Beacon Chain. Superphiz.eth included a more detailed outline of the next steps, including a final trial on the last Ethereum testnet, Goerli. Testnets offer developers a test environment to trial new updates and changes to a blockchain network without the risk of collapsing said network or causing disruptions for users.

The ‘Ethereum is a security’ debate has been going on for a while now. With the move to proof of stake from proof of work closer than ever, the thoughts and think pieces around these have ramped up significantly over the last couple of weeks.

Vitalik Buterin has responded to those who keep saying that Ethereum is a security. This school of thought has arisen from the fact that Ethereum is now moving to a new proof mechanism and a lot of personalities have argued that this makes the digital asset a security. One of these has been a Twitter user and Bitcoin supporter who goes by the name Nick Payton on Twitter. According to Payton, the fact that users of the network were able to vote to change to proof of stake made it a security.

The Internet of Things blockchain Helium, encountered a 4-hour network outage early this week owing to validator troubles that happened after a software update. This software update also resulted in delay in transaction finality. To resume normal functions, Helium’s team solved the issue by skipping the blockchain forward by a block.

The status update mentioned that due to lack in the network consensus, the token transfers were left partially complete because new blocks were not being produced.Helium network reported that it comprises of 43 validators which are randomly chosen in fixed intervals that go on to provide the network consensus. During the resolution process, the engineers of Helium mentioned that there were two reasons why the validators got affected and halted the creation of consensus on the network.

The bear market won't scuttle Bitcoin's adoption plans in the United Kingdom. From Oct. 21–22 this year, internationally recognized Bitcoin (BTC) experts, authors and content creators will take part in the United Kingdom’s largest Bitcoin conference to date.

Speakers include Jeff Booth, author of The Price of Tomorrow, Greg Foss, Validus Power Corp strategist, Natalie Brunell, Host of Coin Stories, and Samson Mow, CEO of Jan3. Booth told Cointelegraph that he’s “excited to meet fellow Bitcoiners and others just starting their journey in Scotland.” According to Haider Rafique, chief marketing officer at OKX, the conference “is just what the Bitcoin industry in the UK needs—the community itself rising up to say this is what we’re about, and this is why you should care.”
